About Dominica:

Dominican Republic Holiday Information and Travel Guide to the Dominican Republic.

Part of old Hispaniola, the island discovered in the year 1492 by Columbus, the Dominican Republic shares the island with the former French colony of Haiti. Historic territory indeed for a holiday or vacation rental.

The coast, which is  more than 1000 kilometres (800 miles) long, boasts beaches of golden, sun-kissed sand. On the Atlantic North, between Cabarete and Puerto Plata, are found most of the  holiday resorts and hotels, making this the ideal part of the country for a holiday or vacation rental.

Heading South, Santa Domingo is home to the first Catholic Cathedral in the Americas. More centrally lie three mountain ranges. The highest is the Cordillera Central, where majestic Pico Duarte reigns as the tallest Caribbean mountain.

Colonial architecture proclaims old Western interests in Santo Domingo, the capital city. But here you will also find African culture, harking back to the Spanish slave trade. Celebrate the fusion of Spanish and African by dancing the merengue: at a festival, perhaps, or within the comfort of your own holiday or vacation rental.

This island is very beautiful and the water and the beaches are simply irresistable. The are a whole host of watersports activities on offer including windsurfing, scuba diving, sailing, fishing as well as many others. The water is full of marine life and it is not unusual to see creatures as large as humpback whales. The beaches are also quite breath taking and you can while away the hours simply lazing in the sun and taking the odd dip in the inviting ocean.
